How commercial links work

Some links earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Accommodation links use the CJ network and lead to Booking.com area searches. A qualifying booking can result in a commission to the publisher. Prices, availability, cancellation terms and the contract are supplied by the booking service and property.

A search button is an invitation to compare an area, not a claim that we have stayed in or inspected every property shown. Check the specific address, transport connection, accessibility details and booking conditions before paying. The travel advice on this site explains planning choices; it does not replace the property’s own description.

Waterstones and Audible buttons currently open ordinary untracked retailer product or catalogue pages. Their affiliate identifiers are blank, so this website does not add an affiliate tag to those searches. Tour links go to the named operator unless a commercial relationship is expressly identified. No paid ranking, invented review or star rating is used to promote a product.

Recommendations and itinerary choices are editorial opinion. Sources support factual details such as an announced role or official visitor access; the judgement about which format or route suits a reader remains ours. Commercial relationships do not buy evidence labels or correction decisions.

Where a paid link appears as text rather than an obvious button, it is labelled Ad. External services apply their own privacy and cookie policies. See Privacy before following a commercial link if you want to understand the information exchanged. Contact the publisher if a link or disclosure is unclear, or read About for ownership details.

Before making a purchase

Compare the complete cost and cancellation conditions at the destination service. Availability can change between opening a search and completing a booking. Keep your confirmation and direct any payment or fulfilment enquiry to the retailer or accommodation provider.

How we choose recommendations

The starting point is the reader’s task. A first-time reader may need one accessible paperback rather than a large collector’s set. A listener should be able to compare the exact narrator and regional edition. A visitor needs the actual attraction address, public access arrangements and a realistic return journey. These practical distinctions shape the guide before any commercial placement is considered.

A product can be mentioned even when its link earns nothing. A Waterstones exclusive may suit a particular reader despite paying no commission under a programme’s rules. We do not change a factual source label, hide a material limitation or sell a favourable correction decision to secure a payment. A higher-priced option is not automatically a better recommendation, and an affiliate link is not evidence that a product is in stock.

Where the site recommends an edition, check its ISBN, format, narrator or other identifying details at the retailer. A product name can appear on several substantially different items. A photograph, an old offer and a familiar cover are not substitutes for the current product description. Our links help you reach a relevant destination; the retailer supplies the transaction terms.

Active and inactive commercial arrangements

Booking.com accommodation links currently use CJ. They retain the publisher’s existing tracking identifiers. Active commission links use an Ad label and the block explains that a qualifying transaction can earn a small commission at no extra cost to the reader. The presence of that label should help you recognise the commercial relationship before leaving the page.

Other retailers remain ordinary untracked destinations while their partner IDs are empty. Tour-package, merchandise and streaming placements requiring approval stay hidden until the necessary information is supplied. An empty ID is not replaced with an invented identifier or a speculative tracking URL.

Commercial arrangements and links may change as programmes are approved. The relevant disclosure and labels should change with them. If a button’s destination or label is unclear, contact the publisher with its page address. Read Sources for the evidence behind factual claims and Privacy for external-service and browser-storage information.
