Windsor Great Park: Harry Potter TV Series Filming Location
Deadline linked Windsor Great Park to a Hogsmeade Station set for HBO’s Harry Potter series in September 2025. Plan a visit for the public park, its walks and landscape. The production set is not a visitor attraction, and this guide offers no route to it.

What was reported at Windsor Great Park?
Reported: Deadline’s 28 September 2025 story, citing the Daily Mail, described a royal family visit to a Hogsmeade Station set built at Windsor Great Park. It also described about half a mile of woodland track for the Hogwarts Express. This is attributed reporting, rather than an HBO visitor announcement or an official location-by-location guide to the finished programme.

The distinction matters when planning a trip. A report about a constructed station does not establish a public station, an operating railway experience or a permanent display. Nor does it tell a viewer how much of the location will appear in an episode. Editing, production design and visual effects can all affect what the audience eventually recognises. Treat the park connection as a reason to discover the landscape, without turning the visit into a search for a particular shot.
Not yet announced in the sources checked: a public tour of the television set, visitor tickets for Hogsmeade Station or an authorised public viewing point. We do not give an exact production-site coordinate, directions to working areas or a filming timetable. Our responsible-location guide explains how we separate an interesting filming report from a place visitors can actually enter.

A working production site has no visitor access
Plan on the basis that the production site is closed to ordinary visitors. A normal park visit gives no permission to cross barriers, enter private areas or follow production vehicles. If your intended public path is closed, take a signed alternative or choose another walk. Do not use a map pin, an old photograph or somebody else’s social post as evidence of permission to enter.
Keep photographs focused on the public landscape and the people travelling with you. Leave staff, residents and performers out of your plans. There is no useful visitor task that involves waiting at a working gate or asking strangers where a cast member might be. Families can make the connection enjoyable by talking about how a real landscape becomes a fictional world, while letting the actual walk remain an ordinary day outdoors.

Visiting the public park: access and opening times
Confirmed: the operator describes Windsor Great Park as open daily with free general entry. Parking and some attractions, including The Savill Garden and Adventure Play, are charged separately. Opening times differ between areas and facilities; use the official opening-times page for the part you intend to visit. We have not reproduced a single park-wide opening time: its dynamic timetable did not render in our source check.

Choose one main public destination before deciding how to travel. A short outing and a long walk need different arrival plans, particularly when the group includes children, somebody using a mobility aid or a visitor who wants regular seated breaks. Identify your starting point, your turn-back point and your return connection. A plan with room to shorten the walk is more useful than a long list of features you feel obliged to reach.
Current notice at this check: the operator lists weather-related closures for 25 October 2026, including some gates, paths and car parks. That notice is date-specific. Read visitor updates again before departure, even if you have visited before.

Parking, walks and access needs
Confirmed: parking is charged, payment across the estate is by card, and overnight parking is not permitted. The official parking page lists individual car parks and their facilities. Visitors cannot drive through restricted park roads; select a public arrival point rather than following navigation through an estate gate.

For a walk, start with the operator’s map rather than a production rumour. The map identifies public areas, private land, gates and visitor facilities. The Long Walk and Virginia Water are public-landscape options to investigate, not directions to the reported station set. Decide whether the appeal is an open view, a waterside walk or a shorter outing close to facilities, then check the current route and conditions for that choice.

For access planning, follow the detailed guides linked from the operator’s visit planner. Ask about your whole route: the arrival point, surface, gradient, toilets, resting places and the way back. A destination can be broadly accessible while a particular approach is unsuitable for your group. Bring the answers together before committing to transport or accommodation, and keep an alternative indoor or shorter plan available if conditions change.
Getting there by rail
Confirmed: the park’s directions list Egham from London Waterloo, Windsor and Eton Riverside from Waterloo, and Windsor Central via Slough from Paddington. The useful station depends on which public area you choose. Arrival at a station is only the first part of the journey: check the onward connection to your entrance and the return journey separately.

Virginia Water station is another option to assess for a southern-side visit. Do not assume its name means that the station opens directly onto the lake. South Western Railway provides station facilities and onward-travel information, including a taxi rank. Check a suitable public route or arrange an onward transfer before choosing it.

Compare complete journeys rather than just the fastest train. Include the time and cost of reaching your chosen gate, any assistance you need and the reliability of the return connection. Avoid building the day around a last possible service. We do not promise a fixed station-to-park walking time because the entrance, route and pace all matter.
Where to stay: Windsor, Egham or Ascot
Our planning suggestion is to choose accommodation around the rest of your trip. Compare Windsor if the town is your main base, Egham if its transport connections suit your chosen arrival, and Ascot if you are combining other local plans. These are area searches, not inspected hotel recommendations or claims about particular properties.
Check the actual address, cancellation terms, parking arrangements and the journey from the property to your public entrance. A hotel described as near the park may still require a substantial onward journey. For an accessible room, confirm the facilities you need directly with the property rather than relying on an area-search result. Keep the room booking independent of any hope of seeing filming.

Combine Windsor with a wider trip
A Windsor Castle visit can be a separate part of your plan; check Royal Collection Trust’s visitor arrangements before adding it. Do not assume park access includes castle admission. Give each destination its own booking and travel checks rather than trying to fit an untested route between them.
For a city break, use our London weekend itinerary as a separate framework and decide whether an extra park day improves the trip. For the distinction between a production base and a visitor attraction, read the Leavesden location guide. The Studio Tour planner covers the separate ticketed visitor experience. Windsor’s reported television set does not provide an alternative ticket when the Studio Tour is unavailable.
